Not only is prequel The First Purge arriving in theaters this summer, but the franchise is also getting its own spinoff TV series. It recently landed at USA Network and Syfy, and THR reports today that Emmy winning director Anthony Hemingway (“The People vs. O.J. Simpson,” “American Horror Story”) has come aboard to direct the pilot episode.
Amanda Warren and Colin Woodell recently joined a cast led by the previously announced Gabriel Chavarria and Jessica Garza.
Ten episodes of the series are planned.
The franchise is about one day each year when murder and mayhem is legalized. Franchise creator James DeMonaco oversees the series which will be an entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness and is slated to launch in conjunction with the next installment in the movie franchise, The First Purge.
