“This place wants us dead.”
With so much great horror on television right now, we realize it’s becoming nearly impossible to watch everything you want to be watching on a weekly basis. “The Walking Dead” and “Ash vs. Evil Dead” have been the two main staples in my own weekly rotation these last several weeks, and I recently added AMC’s new series “The Terror” to the mix.
In “The Terror,” produced by Ridley Scott, “The crew of a Royal Naval expedition searching for the Arctic’s treacherous Northwest Passage discovers instead a monstrous predator.”
As of this past Monday, three episodes of “The Terror” have thus far aired, effectively building up the suspense of precisely *what* is hunting the men aboard the two expedition ships. As if the harsh winter elements weren’t enough of a horror to endure, they’re being killed off by *something*… something we haven’t yet glimpsed in full.
The series was wonderfully restrained in its first two episodes, but oh boy did things get bloody and nasty in Episode 3, “The Ladder.” Shockingly, main character John Franklin (played by Ciarán Hinds) was attacked and brutally killed off by the mysterious beast, which first tore his leg clean off and then pushed him down into an icy death pit.
And it all started with another man getting his head ripped in two.
If you love winter-set horror stories, you NEED to be watching “The Terror.”
