Netflix Renews “Altered Carbon” and Brings Anthony Mackie On As New Series Lead

Netflix’s “Altered Carbon” premiered earlier this year and found enough of an audience to warrant the streaming service bringing it back for a second season, Deadline reports today.

The 8-episode second season of “Altered Carbon” will star Anthony Mackie in the lead role of Takeshi Kovacs, a role originated by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1.

As the site explains, “The recasting of the Takeshi Kovacs role was expected. In the world of Altered Carbon, the journey of Takeshi Kovacs spans hundreds of years, many different bodies, and planets.”

Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, “Altered Carbon” is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent.

Alison Schapker is joining the series as executive producer and will serve as co-showrunner alongside creator/executive producer/former showrunner Laeta Kalogridis.
