MTV Finally Acknowledges “Scream” Season 3 By Adding Mary J. Blige to the Cast

You guys are constantly begging us for updates on the third season of MTV’s “Scream, set to reboot the series and bring back the iconic Ghostface mask, and the only reason we haven’t said a peep is because we haven’t heard a peep. Behind the scenes issues brought complete radio silence to the new season, which was originally supposed to air early this year.

Finally, MTV has broken the silence today, announcing that Mary J. Blige will star! The singer will play main character Deion’s mother, Sherry Elliot.

At this time, still no word on when we should be expecting Season 3.

The six episode third season revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.

“Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey will play the series regular role of Shane, a high school dropout. The character is described as a drug dealer and party promoter who is always hustling in order to make money. But beneath that exterior, there’s more to Shane than anyone realizes.

The new cast also includes Keke Palmer (“Scream Queens”), RJ Cyler (I’m Dying Up Here), Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why), Jessica Sula (Recovery Road), rapper Tyga (aka Michael Ray Stevenson), C.J. Wallace and Giullian Yao Gioiello (Julie’s Greenroom).

The all-new “Scream,” based on Wes Craven’s now-classic big-screen bloodbaths, is executive produced by Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment. Brett Matthews (Vampire DiariesSupernatural) will serve as Showrunner and Executive Producer. Additional Executive Producers are Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad. Matthew Signer & Keith Levine are Producers. Maggie Malina and Dana Gotlieb-Carter are Executive Producers for MTV.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Bloody violence in the Star Wars Universe? It’s about time! The poster’s tagline reads, “In an age of light… a darkness rises.” Expect the show’s official trailer tomorrow, March 19.

Joining Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) are Emmy Award-winner Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).
