“Channel Zero” Creator Reveals “Hannibal”-Inspired Origin for the Nightmarish Tooth Child

Not surprisingly, writing a show like “Hannibal” gives one nightmares.

Back in 2016, Syfy kicked off their horror anthology series “Channel Zero” in memorable fashion with “Candle Cove,” the show’s first season now streaming on Shudder (so too, as of today, is the second season, “No-End House”). “Candle Cove” imparted nightmares with the chilling “Tooth Child,” one of the most memorably unsettling horror villains in recent history.

In a Q&A session on Shudder’s Twitter account today, “Channel Zero” creator Nick Antosca revealed that the “Tooth Child” came to him in a dream… while working on NBC’s “Hannibal”!

I met the Tooth Child in a dream while I was writing for Hannibal,” Antosca tweeted. “Later I put him in Channel Zero.”

During the Q&A, Antosca also revealed that he’d love to bring back the “Tooth Child” in a future season of the show. Given the creature was so directly linked to the story told in “Candle Cove,” we have a hard time imagining how that could even be possible, but it sure is interesting to hear that Antosca has a desire to bring him back. Anything is possible, we suppose!

“Channel Zero: The Dream Door” premieres on Syfy next month, October 26.
