[Video] Brand New Opening Credits Sequence for “The Walking Dead” Takes on a Cool Comic Book Style

We’ve seen (and reviewed) the first three episodes of “The Walking Dead Season 9, and one thing we noticed is that the opening credits sequence is new this year. Season 9 takes us into a whole new world that Rick and the team are trying to build for the future, and the new opening credits sequence reflects that change while paying homage to the comic books.

New showunner Angela Kang details the new opening sequence…

The opening credit sequence is indicative of the new look and feel to the world this season and we wanted to give a nod to the show’s graphic novel origins. As we jump into a new chapter of the story, we wanted to present something fun and fresh for our viewers to reflect the changing landscape, where nature will be playing a bigger role. While our survivors work to rebuild and adjust to the crumbling infrastructure, the threat of the dead is constantly looming.”

She adds, “And true to the spirit of our show, there are Easter Eggs for the fans to find if they’re looking close!

In Season 9:

“We meet up with our survivors a year and a half after the war with Negan, and the world they knew is rapidly changing.”

“The Walking Dead” will return on October 7.
