Natalie Dormer Becomes a Shapeshifting Demon in Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”!

Showtime has announced that Natalie Dormer (“Game of Thrones”, The Forest) will join “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”, the next chapter of the “Penny Dreadful” saga. Bloody is told she will play Magda, a supernatural demon who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses and manifests in a number of guises throughout the story.

Charismatic, clever and chameleonic, Magda is a dangerous enemy and an invaluable ally.

A spiritual descendant of the original “Penny Dreadful” story set in Victorian-era London, “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.

“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” explores an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of the period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop. This chapter is a bold new vision that will employ all new characters and storylines.

The series will also star Jessica Garza (“The Purge”) and Johnathan Nieves (“New Amsterdam”).

Tony and Golden Globe award winner and three-time Oscar nominee John Logan, creator, writer and executive producer of the Emmy nominated series “Penny Dreadful”, will continue in those same roles. Michael Aguilar will also serve as executive producer. Production on the drama series is expected to begin later this year.

Last week we learned that Steve Buscemi had joined the cast of “Wednesday” Season 2 at Netflix, and Variety lets us know that Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) has also signed on.

Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” with Steve Buscemi playing the new principal of Nevermore Academy.

Jenna Ortega stars in the hit series as Wednesday Addams, with Luis Guzmán playing Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Morticia in Tim Burton’s Netflix series. Christina Ricci also appears in the show, playing a brand new role, with Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

“Wednesday” is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” The series follows…

“Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”) are the writers and showrunners, with Tim Burton executive producing and directing several episodes of the show’s debut season.

We don’t know much about “Wednesday” Season 2 at the moment but Jenna Ortega has promised that the new season will be “bolder” and darker than the first season of the series.

“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more,” Ortega said last year.
