Ryan Phillippe Set as Star of CBS’s Frankenstein Pilot, Now Titled “Alive”

Published

CBS ordered up a batch of pilots early this year, one of which was a new take on Mary Shelley’s legendary story, Frankenstein. The series comes from Jason Tracey, “Elementary” creator Rob Doherty, and CBS TV Studios, and we’ve learned today (via Deadline) that the title of the potential series is “Alive. Additionally, Ryan Phillippe is now set to lead the pilot.

Katrina LawAaron Staton and Saidah Arrika Ekulona will also star.

“Frankenstein” centers on a San Francisco homicide detective who’s mysteriously brought back to life after being killed in the line of duty.

“As he resumes his old life and he and his wife realize he isn’t the same person he used to be, they zero in on the strange man behind his resurrection – Dr. Victor Frankenstein.”

Phillippe’s Escher, a San Francisco police investigator, was presumed dead after an attack and destructive fire at his home. Six months later, he shockingly reappears and is reunited with his wife, Elizabeth. But something has changed. A shadow has fallen across his sunny disposition, and he’s haunted by visions of the case he was working on when he died. He and Elizabeth will seek answers about who shot and abducted him, and what was done to him.

Law’s Elizabeth Lavenza, a pathologist/medical examiner, is stunned when her husband returns from the dead, and though she’s thrilled to have him back, she knows there’s a secret behind his disappearance, his reappearance and his new personality – and she thinks she knows exactly who’s responsible.

Staton’s Victor Frankenstein is a brilliant, slightly odd and driven – perhaps obsessed – scientist who is working on a secret, cutting-edge project. On the run from an ethics board in China, Victor is back in the U.S., where he works in a lab and is very involved in whatever it is that’s going on with Escher. He’s also Escher’s wife’s ex.

Uta Briesewitz (“Westworld”) will be directing the pilot.

American Horror Story” lucky season 13 will be an all-star reunion in more ways than one. Ryan Murphy teased an Avengers-level new season that sees returning players take on multiple roles.

The return of Jessica Lange and first images had many speculating that the 13th season of FX’s anthology series would pick up fromCoven. It turns out that’s only partially accurate.

Murphy revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the new season is a sequel toall seasons combined.”

Murphy continued,So Sarah Paulson is playing six or seven roles. Jessica Lange is playing all four of her iconic characters. Evan Peters is playing five characters, and of course Kathy Bates and Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd. It’s like the Avengers! They all come together to defeat the ultimate evil.

To be fair, that is hinted at in the film’s official synopsis:An unrivaled 13th installment that will do justice to everyone’s most feared number. Bringing together an all-star cast, many of whom are reprising fan-favorite roles, American Horror Story: 13 continues to build on the anthology’s decades-long legacy that has been streamed more than 700 million hours across the globe and spawned a legion of dedicated fans.”

American HorrorStory has redefined the genre with various installments featuring a creepy murder house, a coven of witches, a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and the apocalypse itself. Which iconic horrors will return to haunt the hallowed halls of 13 and what new terrors await? Light your candles, draw your pentagrams and prepare for a supreme surprise.

The detail that this all-star cast would take on every iteration they’ve played throughout twelve seasons, though, is new.

Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, John Carroll Lynch, and Mat Fraser also star.

Newcomers this season include Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Berto Colon (The Night Agent), and cult filmmaker John Waters.
