Paul Sparks Playing Stephen King Character John “Ace” Merrill in Season 2 of “Castle Rock”

When the first casting for Season 2 of Hulu’s “Castle Rock” was announced last month, Garrett Hedlund was set to play John “Ace” Merrill, but Deadline reports today that the role has been recast at the final hour. Paul Sparks (“House of Cards”) will now play the bully known as “Ace,” the same character that Kiefer Sutherland played in Stand By Me.

The site notes, “I hear the recasting was a creative decision related to the character of Ace, who is taking over his uncle Pop’s businesses and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem’s Lot. It was made after Hedlund had filmed a handful of scenes. They will now be reshot.”

Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) will be returning to the world of Stephen King in Season 2, alongside Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade).

Caplan is playing iconic Misery character Annie Wilkes!

Series regulars also include Yusra Warsama (Assassin’s Creed: Origins)Barkhad Abdi (Blade Runner 2049) and Matthew Alan (13 Reasons Why).

In Season 2, a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Caplan), Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock

“Castle Rock” is produced by J.J. Abrams.

Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason developed the series for Hulu.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
