Stephen King Raves About New Netflix Zombie Series “Black Summer”

Black Summer Season 3

Set in the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, “Black Summer” stars Jaime King as Rose, a mother torn from her daughter who embarks upon a harrowing journey to find her.

The eight-episode zombie series is actually a companion prequel to “Z Nation, which was cancelled by Syfy last year after airing for five seasons. The series rolled out on Netflix this past week, and among its fans thus far is Stephen King, who took to Twitter to rave.

King tweeted:

“Just when you think there’s no more scare left in zombies, THIS comes along. Existential hell in the suburbs, stripped to the bone.”

He added on Facebook, “No long, fraught discussions. No endless flashbacks, because there’s no back story. No grouchy teens. Dialogue is spare. Much shot with a single handheld camera, very fluid. Showrunners could learn a lot from this. If they could work, that is.”

High praise from the King. Stream “Black Summer” on Netflix today!

In “Black Summer,” Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones. But in order for Rose and her team to brave this hostile new world, they will need to make brutal decisions to contend with zombies – and each other.

Karl Schaefer and John Hyams created the series.
