The CW has been eager to bring Joel Schumacher’s “The Lost Boys” to the small screen for a few years now, but thus far the project just hasn’t come together as they’ve hoped. Filming took place earlier this year on a new pilot written by Heather Mitchell and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, but we’ve learned this week that it’s now going to be re-shot.
“While I hear the CW brass loved the script, not all elements in the pilot came together in the execution, thus the order for a reworked new pilot, which could feature recastings.”
From what we gather, The CW’s executives are still very much into the idea of “The Lost Boys” as a series, they just want to make sure they get it right before ordering it up.
“Everything Sucks!” actor Rio Mangini had been cast as the new Sam for The CW‘s pilot episode, with a cast that also included Sarah Hay, Del Zamora, Cheyenne Haynes, Haley Tju, Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro. Haynes and Tju are the Frog Sisters, Liza and Cassie.
“The Lost Boys” is set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires.
After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.
Heather Mitchell executive produces alongside Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley. Rebecca Franko and Juliana Janes are on board as producers of the series.
