“Snowpiercer” TV Series Moves to TBS and a Second Season Has Already Been Ordered
TNT ordered up a “Snowpiercer” TV series back in early 2018, a show based on Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 film of the same name, but creative differences have led to all kinds of behind the scenes changed being made in the past year or so. So what’s the latest on the small screen adaptation? Well for starters, “Snowpiercer” has just moved from TNT over to TBS.
Additionally, Deadline reports this morning, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series has already been given an order for a second season over at TBS, before the first even airs!
The first season is set to premiere in Spring 2020.
“Snowpiercer is the perfect show to kick-off TBS’ entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting,” said Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS and TNT. “We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues.”
The series stars Jennifer Connelly (Dark City), Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh (The Conjuring 2), Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness (“Roots”), Alison Wright (“The Americans”), Annalise Basso (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Captain Fantastic), Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall.
Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the series centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. As it does, issues of class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival are raised.
“Snowpiercer” is produced by Tomorrow Studios (a joint venture between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios), along with CJ Entertainment, who produced the original film. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein(Cowboy Bebop, Hanna, Prison Break) and Becky Clements (Good Behavior, Aquarius, Last Man Standing); showrunner Graeme Manson (Orphan Black), who wrote the first episode; director James Hawes (The Alienist, Black Mirror); Matthew O’Connor (Continuum, Tin Man); Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Doctor Strange), and the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Tae-sung Jeong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi.
The Ghostbusters franchise returns to the world of animation with brand new Netflix series “Ghostbusters: Night Shift,” and the official logo has been revealed this weekend.
Expect “Ghostbusters: Night Shift” to clock in on Netflix in 2027!
Netflix previews, “Ghostbusters: Night Shift, a series from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation based on the beloved Ghostbusters franchise, will debut exclusively on Netflix in 2027.
“The new series marks the next chapter in the franchise’s ghoul-catching legacy, bringing supernatural comedy and paranormal action back to animation.”
The upcoming animated series from Netflix will be executive produced by Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Amie Karp, and Dan Aykroyd.
Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, director of the original Ghostbusters features, and Kenan co-wrote the franchise’s most recent installments, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire.
“This isn’t the first time the Ghostbusters universe has gone animated,” Netflix reminds in their press release today. “The 1980s and ’90s saw The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters take over the small screen. For now, you can rest assured: If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, a Ghostbuster will be on the job — even if it’s after hours.”
