The planned sequel to 1994’s James Cameron-directed True Lies never managed to get off the ground but now 25 years later, we’ve learned tonight, a TV series is in the works!
Revealed to Collider, McG (The Babysitter, Rim of the World) is developing a “True Lies” TV series for Disney+, and he’s been given James Cameron’s personal blessing.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the 1994 action film, with Schwarzenegger playing a fearless, globe-trotting, terrorist-battling secret agent who has his life turned upside down when he discovers his wife might be having an affair with a used car salesman while terrorists smuggle nuclear war heads into the United States.
McG told Collider Live, “I’m writing that one, which is very exciting, because I’m so passionate about that story where you think you know your partner but you don’t.”
He also added that the story has been “largely rebooted,” but that an appearance from Schwarzenegger is always a possibility. “There’s talk of that,” he told the podcast.
