Netflix and Russo Brothers Developing “Magic: The Gathering” Animated Series With Horror Vibe!
We’ve learned this morning that the mega popular trading card game “Magic: The Gathering” is finally coming to the screen in the form of an animated series from Netflix!
What’s particularly exciting here is that the series comes from executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo, Deadline lets us know, the co-directors of Avengers: Endgame.
The Russo brothers will “oversee the creation of an all new storyline and expand on the stories” of the Planeswalkers, the magic-wielding heroes and villains who dominate Magic’s tabletop realms of imagination.
“We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us,” the Russo brothers said in a joint statement.
“Our goal is to not only tell a compelling story leveraging Magic: The Gathering’s incredible body of work, but to also push the medium and perception of storytelling through animation,” Octopie CEO Isaac Krauss said. “This series will cross the genres of suspenseful thriller, horror, and drama with deeply developed characters the likes of which are not often seen in animation.”
Henry Gilroy (Star Wars Rebels) and Jose Molina (The Tick) will write and show-run.

‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Season 2 Trailer – The Dark Animated Series Returns July 31
The Caped Crusader is back in the upcoming Batman: Knightfall animated trilogy event, and he’s also returning this Summer in the second season of “Batman: Caped Crusader.”
Prime Video has announced this morning that “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2 will premiere on July 31 on Prime. In the meantime, watch the new official trailer down below.
In “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2, there are new villains on the streets of Gotham City and there’s only one man for the job. This season, it’s not a fight anymore. It’s a WAR…
The animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader” is a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” from J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, Bruce Timm, Sam Register and Ed Brubaker.
“Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—The Batman.
“His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
Daniel Kurland wrote in his review of the first season, “Batman: Caped Crusader’s unique, terrifying take on established corners of the DC universe is sure to resonate with horror fans, comic book aficionados, and everything in between. Caped Crusader’s immersion into EC Comics ideology and a true indulgence in horror is a superpower that’s more fascinating and dangerous than any WayneTech gadget or Kryptonite-powered super-suit.”
Hamish Linklater voices Batman/Bruce Wayne in the series, alongside Mckenna Grace, Reid Scott, Dane Donohue, Gary Anthony Williams, Jason Watkins, John Dimaggio, Krystal Joy Brown, Michelle C. Bonilla, Eric Morgan Stuart, Tom Kenny, Minnie Driver, Diedrich Bader, Jamie Chung and Christina Ricci.
Based on DC characters, “Batman: Caped Crusader” hails from Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm, “Batman: Caped Crusader” executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.
