USA Network Orders Up a Pilot for “Masters of Doom,” About the Creators of the ‘Doom’ Video Game

Published by Random House back in 2003, David Kushner’s book Masters of Doom told the story of how two guys created an empire and transformed pop culture with the Doom and Quake video game franchises, and the true story is now headed to the small screen. Deadline reports that USA Network has ordered a pilot episode for a series adaptation of the book.

The drama comes from James and Dave Franco’s Ramona Films, The Gotham Group and UCP. The series, Deadline notes, is being eyed as a potential anthology.

“Masters of Doom is the true story of two computer geniuses in an obscure corner of America who, along with a group of rebellious misfits, created one of the biggest franchise hits of the 90s, the video game Doom. John Carmack and John Romero were best friends who became bitter rivals, as they created a video game empire and transformed pop culture forever.”

The pilot will be written and executive produced by Tom Bissell (Gears of War).
