The CW Will Be Shooting a Brand New Pilot for “The Lost Boys” TV Series This Fall

We learned just last month that The CW‘s already filmed pilot episode for a TV series based on “The Lost Boys” is being completely scrapped and re-tooled, with most roles being recast for an entirely different attempt at getting the project off the ground. Revealed by executive producer Rob Thomas over the weekend, the brand new pilot will film this coming fall.

The writer, Heather Mitchell, is doing a rewrite on the script right now; we have gotten through the notes process,” Thomas told Deadline. “We are going to shoot the pilot this fall.”

“There were scenes that we thought we could do a better job on, so it’s going through a 40% rewrite. It’s not a total rewrite.”

Thomas also noted, “Two years ago, I wrote a very outside-the-box version of [the pilot]. The network didn’t want to go that far outside the box. So fortunately, the writer who is working on it right now, Heather Mitchell, loves the original movie and is eager to make the series look a little bit more like the original Lost Boys. It’s two human brothers showing up in this California beach town with the amusement park and a vampire infestation. It’s going to have a lot in common with the movie.

All but two actors – Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro – will be re-cast for the new pilot. Rahimi plays Stella, a new version of Star, while Shapiro is David.

“The Lost Boys” is set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires.

After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

Heather Mitchell executive produces alongside Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley. Rebecca Franko and Juliana Janes are on board as producers of the series.
