Netflix Says a Record Breaking 64 Million Users Watched “Stranger Things 3” in the First Month

Announced during today’s quarterly earnings report, Netflix currently has 158 million subscribers worldwide, and they say that 64 million of them watched the third season of “Stranger Things” within the first four weeks of its premiere on the streaming service on July 4th. That makes “Stranger Things 3” the most-watched original series in the history of Netflix.

Netflix had revealed back in July that 40.7 million households had watched some portion of Season 3 within the first four days, with 18.2 million already finishing it at that point.

Of course, this would explain why Netflix not only renewed “Stranger Things” for a fourth season last month but also signed creators the Duffer Brothers to a multi-year deal.

THR notes, “Netflix counts a “view” as a member household watching 70 percent of one episode of a series or 70 percent of a feature film.”

The site also notes, for the sake of context and comparison, that the previous four-week high was the debut season of “The Umbrella Academy,” with 45 million views.
