CBS All Access and The New Mutants director Josh Boone are bringing Stephen King’s epic “The Stand” back to the screen for a new television series, and now we have a better idea of when to expect it. Revealed by CBS during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour over the weekend, “The Stand” is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Boone (who at one point was going to adapt the 1978 novel as a feature film) both co-wrote and directs the 10-episode series, which King himself contributed a brand new ending for.

The series will bring to life King’s vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård, Whoopi Goldberg, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Greg Kinnear, Brad William Henke, Nat Wolff, Daniel Sunjata, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Eion Bailey, Katherine McNamara, Heather Graham, Marilyn Manson, Hamish Linklater and Henry Zaga.
King’s novel was originally published in 1978. It was first turned into a television mini-series back in 1994. Horror master Mick Garris directed that 366 minute adaptation.
