First “Chucky” and now Syfy has given a 10-episode order for a series based on George A. Romero’s classic zombie film “Day of the Dead,” reports Deadline.
While the original 1985 film followed a small group of military officers and scientists who dwell in an underground bunker as the world above is overrun by zombies, the Syfy series sounds a bit different.
“Day of the Dead” is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion.
It’s unclear if there‘s a military angle or if they’re just focusing on telling the story of the initial outbreak, but after two awful remakes, it would awesome to see this one be something that connects with all of us Romero fans.
Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, the series hails from Cartel Entertainment (“Creepshow”).
“Day of the Dead” is expected to air on Syfy in 2021.
In other news, Syfy has also ordered “The Surrealtor” from Blue Ice Pictures (Ginny and Georgia).
In “The Surrealtor”, realtor Nick Roman and an elite team of specialists handle the cases that no one else can: haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away. Researching, investigating and “fixing” the things that go bump in the night, the team works to create closure—and closings –even as they struggle with demons of their own.
Lance Samuels and Daniel Iron produce along with George Olson who will also serve as showrunner.
