Earlier this year, ABC ordered up a pilot for “The Brides” from “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, centered on the Brides of Dracula.
Deadline reports this week that Gina Torres (“Hannibal,” “Pearson”) will star in the pilot as a character named Cleo Phillips. “One of the three Brides of Dracula and the leader of this vampire trio, Cleo is an imperious woman with a queenly manner —understandably, as she was a queen in her former life who was turned by Dracula after the death of her husband.”
“Now a maven of New York City real estate, Cleo is challenged professionally by a mysterious newcomer — even as her ties to her sisters are dangerously fraying.”
The site also notes that Dracula will appear in the series.
“The Brides is a sexy, contemporary reimagining of the Dracula saga as a family drama with a trio of powerful, diverse female leads.”
“With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy—and their non-traditional family.”
Maggie Kiley (“American Horror Story”) is on board to direct the pilot, being written by Aguirre-Sacasa. “The Brides” is being produced with Berlanti Productions.
