Mobile Phones Will Immobilize the Population in Joshua Wong’s Sci-fi Series “Invasian”

Just a couple days ago, The Laundromatte uploaded the short film “Invasian” to YouTube, billed as a concept short for a television series that’s currently in development. And Deadline reports today that the project is indeed moving forward, with Endless Media and The Laundromatte joining forces to turn writer/director Joshua Wong‘s concept into a TV series.

In “Invasian”…

A drone invasion of Hong Kong has suppressed and subdued the entire population through their smartphones. The only ones who can stop the drones are a bunch of kids whose phones are confiscated and a group of technophobic senior citizens.

“With the world at a standstill, the best thing creators can do is create,” says Wong. “Invasian is a project I’m incredibly excited about, with an ethnically diverse cast of characters and ages, dealing with very relevant and scarily current topics and themes told through a sci-fi lens. Nothing like this has come out of Asia and my team and I are pumped to bring it to life.”

The series, Deadline notes, will be English-language.
