A Fog Rolls In and Brings Terror to Amazon’s “The Rig”
Fans of John Carpenter’s The Fog may want to hit the seas with Amazon’s new supernatural series, “The Rig”, which has been given the green light with John Strickland (“Line of Duty”, “Bodyguard”) set to helm the six-part show, reports Deadline.
“The series is set onboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When the crew are due to return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world. As they endeavor to discover what’s driving this force, bonds are broken, allegiances formed and generational fault lines exposed.”
The project comes from new writer David Macpherson and UK producer Wild Mercury Productions, which has credits including Troy: Fall of a City and “Humans” season three.
“’The Rig’ is a character-driven, epic thriller, full of heart-grabbing action and bold, original ideas,” said Derek Wax, Managing Director of Wild Mercury.
“’The Rig’ is a brilliant story, expertly told, in the most dramatic of settings,” adds Georgia Brown, Director of European Amazon Originals for Prime Video. “It asks searching questions about nature and the environment, about what it takes to survive and to be human, which feels very pertinent to the world we are living in now.”
“The Rig” will become the first Amazon Original filmed exclusively in Scotland when it shoots at FirstStage Studios, the new film and TV studio space in Edinburgh, next year.
Casting is currently underway.
Season two of “Batman: Caped Crusader“, Prime Video’s animated noir series from DC Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho, is officially set to arrive next month.
Prime Video will premiere all ten episodes of season two on Friday, July 31.
“Batman: Caped Crusader” is a hard-boiled look at the vigilante’s early years, reimagined by J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, Bruce Timm, Sam Register, and Ed Brubaker.
“Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant, and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—The Batman.
“His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
The new premiere date comes with a suitably dark first look at some of Gotham’s denizens, including Edward Nygma, Carrie Kelly, and Roxy Rocket, who will be featured in the upcoming season.
Returning voice cast includes Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzel, Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth, Eric Morgan Stuart as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Michelle C. Bonilla as Renee Montoya, and Bumper Robinson as Lucius Fox.
Executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm are back for “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2. James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register also executive produce.
