“The Winchesters”: The CW Developing a “Supernatural” Prequel Series With Jensen Ackles Narrating
Less than a year after “Supernatural” came to an end, we’ve learned via Deadline tonight that The CW is already bringing the Winchester family back with a planned prequel series.
The project is simply titled “The Winchesters,” and Deadline reports that it will center on Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester. Jensen Ackles will narrate the series.
“Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”
Deadline also reminds, “John and Mary were played on the show by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith. Mary was killed by a demon when Sam was still a baby. Investigating her death, John becomes a hunter and then passes on his knowledge and skills to his sons. John was a recurring character in the first season and died in the Season 2 premiere.”
“Supernatural” exec producer Robbie Thompson is writing and executive producing.
Jensen Ackles is also executive producing the planned project.

Ralph Ineson and Corey Stoll Join ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Spinoff Series Starring Wyatt Russell
The small screen MonsterVerse is expanding with a “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” spinoff series centered on Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell), and Deadline brings us the latest casting news.
Corey Stoll (Imperfect Women, Billions), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Fantastic Four: First Steps), and Nyasha Hatendi (Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials, Casual) have signed on.
Pilou Asbæk (Salem’s Lot) and Millie Brady (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) also star.
Originally announced back in December, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” showrunner and “Monarch” executive producer Joby Harold will serve as showrunner on the untitled spinoff series.
The series will follow Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.
Wyatt Russell told Collider earlier this year, “you’ve got absolutely no fucking clue what to expect. I think people are going to expect one thing and be like, ‘Holy shit, this is not what I expected.’ It’ll go deeper into Lee’s experience after he came up, and being sort of put on ice, in 1982, and then what happens after that, and why he’s needed and the mission he goes on.”
