“The Sandman”: Neil Gaiman Reveals a Mind-Bending First Look at the Netflix Series! [Video]

On the way from Netflix is a series adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s “The Sandman” comic books, and the upcoming project was represented at Netflix’s virtual “Tudum” event today.

This afternoon, Neil Gaiman (Author and EP), Tom Sturridge (Dream), and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death) reveal a mind-bending and visually captivating exclusive first look at the long-awaited dark fantasy series to go along with a trio of character posters. Watch the video below!

Netflix describes, “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”

“The Sandman” is a new dark fantasy Netflix series based on The Sandman comic book series created for DC by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Coraline). Gaiman is also an Executive Producer and Co-Writer. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

Here’s the main cast for the live-action series:

  • TOM STURRIDGE is DREAM, Lord of the Dreaming
  • GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE is LUCIFER, Ruler of Hell
  • VIVIENNE ACHEAMPONG is LUCIENNE, chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm
  • BOYD HOLBROOK is THE CORINTHIAN, an escaped nightmare who wishes to taste all that the world has in store
  • CHARLES DANCE is RODERICK BURGESS, Charlatan, blackmailer and magician
  • ASIM CHAUDHRY is ABEL and SANJEEV BHASKAR is CAIN, the first victim and the first predator, residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.

Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) serves as Executive Producer and Showrunner. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation) serves as Executive Producer, and Goyer and Heinberg are also Co-Writers.

“I’m the Grim Reaper” – Sam Raimi Teams with ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Writers on Gory, Funny Webtoon Adaptation

The Wattpad/Webtoons and Grave Weaver-created series “I’m the Grim Reaper” is nearing its 200th episode, and it’s also getting a new TV series adaptation with talented names behind it. Deadline reports that celebrated filmmaker Sam Raimi is teaming up with 10 Cloverfield Lane scribes Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken on the new series.

The series follows “Scarlet, a young woman who wakes up in the ninth circle of hell with no idea how she got there. Satan offers to send Scarlet back to Earth if she’ll work as his reaper. But it doesn’t take long for Scarlet to realize that Satan’s offer is even worse than she feared.”

The story is said to fit perfectly into “Raimi’s wheelhouse, striking a deft balance between scares, gore and humor.”

Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi will executive produce the series with Weaver, who’ll also team on the development process. Raimi may be most known for his Spider-Man and Evil Dead movies, but the filmmaker has been busy behind the scenes producing. More recently, Raimi produced this week’s action brawler Boy Kills World and last year’s 65, with Don’t Move on the way.

The “I’m the Grim Reaper” webtoon launched in 2019, delving into the humor and horrors of reaping souls in Hell. That it’s on the cusp of airing its 200th episode means no shortage of story and mythology for Campbell and Stuecken to pull from.
