“Harley Quinn” Gets Fifth Season Renewal from Max
The popular Max Original “Harley Quinn” adult animated series completed its fourth season this summer, and Max announced today that a fifth season is on the way.
The raucous adventures of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy will continue, promising to create chaos in their wake.
This biting and uproarious adult animated comedy follows Harley Quinn (voiced by executive producer Kaley Cuoco) as she strikes out on her own following her breakup with The Joker (Alan Tudyk). With help from Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley attempts to work her way into the Legion of Doom, before an identity crisis sends her on a larger quest to find her true place in Gotham City. With appearances by DC’s most notorious characters and featuring a notable voice cast – including Christopher Meloni, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Tony Hale, and others – “Harley Quinn” showcases the titular antiheroine’s killer journey from girlfriend to leading lady.
Sarah Peters, who has written on the series since season one and currently serves as consulting producer, took over the role of showrunner from Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker in season four.
As for what to expect in the upcoming season? It sounds like the series will be making massive narrative swings.
Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President of Warner Bros. Animation, said, “Harley Quinn has raised the comedic crowbar with every new season. We’re excited to continue this partnership with Max and take our biggest swing yet for season 5.”
Based on characters from DC, “Harley Quin” is produced by Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Lorey Stories, and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The series was developed by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey. Dean Lorey serves as Executive Producer and Showrunner. Executive Producers are Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Kaley Cuoco, Sam Register, and Katie Rich. Co-Executive Producers are Chrissy Romero. Supervising Producers are Cecilia Aranovich Hamilton and Ian Hamilton. Producer is Susan Ward. Consulting Producers are Jamiesen Borak and Leslie Schapira. Co-Producer is Vidhya Iyer.
If season five of “Harley Quinn” still feels too far away, worry not: animated spin-off series titled “Kite Man: Hell Yeah!” will be heading our way in 2024. The series will see Kite Man and Golden Glider take their relationship to the next level by opening a bar in the shadow of Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom.
The Ghostbusters franchise returns to the world of animation with brand new Netflix series “Ghostbusters: Night Shift,” and the official logo has been revealed this weekend.
Expect “Ghostbusters: Night Shift” to clock in on Netflix in 2027!
Netflix previews, “Ghostbusters: Night Shift, a series from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation based on the beloved Ghostbusters franchise, will debut exclusively on Netflix in 2027.
“The new series marks the next chapter in the franchise’s ghoul-catching legacy, bringing supernatural comedy and paranormal action back to animation.”
The upcoming animated series from Netflix will be executive produced by Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Amie Karp, and Dan Aykroyd.
Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, director of the original Ghostbusters features, and Kenan co-wrote the franchise’s most recent installments, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire.
“This isn’t the first time the Ghostbusters universe has gone animated,” Netflix reminds in their press release today. “The 1980s and ’90s saw The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters take over the small screen. For now, you can rest assured: If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, a Ghostbuster will be on the job — even if it’s after hours.”
