The upcoming prequel series “Crystal Lake” is bringing back a handful of key characters from the original Friday the 13th movie, including Pamela Voorhees, Jason Voorhees, and even Crazy Ralph. But what about key behind the scenes players who helped make the 1980 slasher an enduring horror classic? At least one of them will indeed be returning to the franchise.
Empire Online reveals this week that legendary original Friday the 13th composer Harry Manfredini has contributed brand new original music to Peacock’s “Crystal Lake” series!
The opening title sequence for “Crystal Lake,” in fact, will pay tribute to the original classic.
“Crystal Lake” showrunner Brad Caleb Kane tells Empire, “The credit sequence can really help set the right atmosphere and vibe from the start. I remember watching a show that was the precursor to The X-Files, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and it had this really grainy, nerve-jangling vibe to it that’s just steeped in that 1970s time and place. But I also wanted to give a nod to the original Friday the 13th movie; the words ‘Crystal Lake’ pop out of the screen, shatter the glass, and the credits use the same font as the movie.”
Empire notes, “They also got Harry Manfredini – who scored the original film – to create new original music for the title sequence.”
Harry Manfredini is of course the man responsible for the franchise’s iconic music dating back to the 1980 original, with Manfredini creating the legendary “Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma” sound.
