A new series adaptation of Skybound Comics’ Stillwater was greenlit in July, and Variety reports that it’s finally found its lead in The Conjuring: Last Rites breakout Ben Hardy.
Greg Berlanti (You, The Flight Attendant) and Carly Wray (Watchmen, Westworld) are leading the charge on the upcoming horror-drama series from Amazon MGM Studios, based on the comic from creators Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez.
The official logline describes a “mind-bending horror thriller that focuses on ex-con Daniel West (Hardy). When Daniel receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.”
Wray and Berlanti co-wrote the pilot episode and executive produce the upcoming series.
“We’ve been fans of Ben’s for a long time, and we’re thrilled to get to tell this story together,” said Berlanti and Wray. “There’s a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both. From the moment we saw Ben in the role, it was impossible to imagine anyone else.”
Hardy played Tony Spera, who aspires to marry Ed and Lorraine Warren’s daughter Judy in the newest installment of the Conjuring franchise. His credits also include Mary Shelley and X-Men: Apocalypse.

The comic series was first published in September 2020 and concluded in January 2023.
Prime Video gave the series an eight-episode order. The series comes from Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Skybound Entertainment.
