Prime Video’s Carrie series marks the fourth Stephen King adaptation from filmmaker Mike Flanagan, with a Dark Tower series still in development. While praising Flanagan’s work on social media, the horror author teased that another secret project may be on the way.
King posted a video of himself on X as he tuned into Carrie with his dog, Molly, but also gave Constant Readers another incentive to watch: “It was directed by Mike Flanagan, and he is the best adapter of my work. And if you like this and enough people watch it, he might be doing something else that’s really special. But I can’t talk about it. Shhhh. Molly be quiet. Okay?”
Referring to Flanagan as the best adapter of his work is high praise, considering just how prolific the author and adaptations of his work tend to be. To date, Flanagan has adapted Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck into feature films.
Naturally, King kept mum on what that special project might be. But it’s worth noting that the eight-episode inaugural season shares a connection to The Dark Tower; Carrie could be laying the foundation for Flanagan’s larger vision even beyond the three-season run he hopes to achieve with his latest series.
The series even features a deep cut Easter egg in the very first scenes of the first episode, which is set at a construction site revealed to be LaMerk Industries. LaMerk is a metalworks company that’s allied with The Crimson King in The Dark Tower series.
Carrie stars Samantha Sloyan and Summer H. Howell have already weighed in on their hopes for joining Flanagan’s Dark Tower.
Considering that Carrie is currently dominating Prime Video’s streaming charts, we may find out what that special project that King is teasing is sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed.
