Keeping to their word, Nightdive Studios have been regularly keeping backers and fans up to date with their progress on their remake of System Shock. This month’s update is particular noteworthy, as not only do we get screenshots, more concept art and assets, but also details on Nightdive’s upcoming “Adventure Alpha”.
What is the Adventure Alpha, you ask? Besides being Nightdive’s September milestone, this is essentially a slice of the game’s first level, and will be “reminiscent” of the original with its difficulty set to zero. You’ll be able to explore Citadel Station, listen to audio logs, and complete objectives without being pursued by hostile enemies. Nightdive hopes to have everything on that wrapped up by September. The team have also managed to apply the original game’s upscaled textures to the levels to give you an idea of just what the original game would look like on modern hardware.
Nightdive also says to be aware that for the level’s textures that “these are the original textures [from the original game] and not the final art! Not only will it make the Adventure Alpha more interesting but it will provide the team with a blueprint of how to approach updated art, lighting, level design.”
