Fans of Junji Ito’s bizarre (and downright horrifying) manga illustrations will have something new to fuel your nightmares with the recent announcement trailer of the adventure RPG horror game, World of Horror, which has been in development since 2016.
The game, which is done in the old-school black-and-white Apple Macintosh graphic style (think Uninvited) that aims to replicate the manga aesthetic of Ito’s work, takes place in a sleepy seaside Japanese town in the year “198X”. The Old Gods have reawakened to sate their primal hunger, and in doing so, the fabric of our reality has started to crumble, causing otherworldly horrors to appear. Players must survive by duking it out in turn-based battles while building card decks that will act as choices that either help or hinder your survival. You’ll also be able to choose from five protagonists, with each journey being unique.
The trailer lists the game with a 2019 release, with the game heading to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. If you’re interested in checking out the game’s progress, you can hit up its ich.io page, or if you’re in a giving mood, you can head to the game’s Patreon page.
