Bloody Good Apocalyptic Fun to be Had in ‘Infected Shelter’ Trailer

Published

on

In the mood for some gory post-apocalyptic fun in the vein of GARAGE: Bad Trip (well, more of it)? The two-person team of Dark Blue Games has something for you in their recently-announced game, Infected Shelter, which is due out later this year on Steam, with later releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.

Infected Shelter is a randomly-generated action RPG brawler that takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where you awake one day to find your shelter has been raided, and your people have been kidnapped. It’s up to you to venture into the wasteland and rescue them. Bloody over-the-top mayhem ensues.

The big thing about Infected Shelter is its replayability. By beating enemies, players will be able to loot “more than 150 different blueprints of permanent improvements”, which will factor into each playthrough’s variation. That’s on top of unlocking new weapons, clothes, skills, relics and other RPG-like character improvements with each playthrough.

You’ll have access to a variety of weapons, from chainsaws to guitars and various firearms. Aside from the single player experience, the game will also support both regular and local co-op with up to four players. Check out the game’s official site for more info.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
