‘Hellgate: London’ Rises Again on Steam

Remember the action RPG Hellgate: London? Created by former Blizzard Entertainment employees who had a hand in the Diablo series, the game was developed by Flagship Studios and released on October 31, 2007 to mixed reviews and crippling bugs. The game subsequently went through a relaunch a year later, but it was ultimately in vain, as the game went out with a whimper in North America, and the servers shut down in 2009.

But now, the game has seemingly been reborn, at least according to its Steam page. The page lists a November 15th release date, with T3Entertainment as developer. It’s not clear if this is a full relaunch of the game, as the multiplayer component doesn’t appear to be included. Nor does the listing say if the expansions created by Korean-based software distributor Hanbitsoft are included.

If that’s indeed the case that this is just the single-player version of the game, the question of “Why bother?” comes to mind, as the multiplayer component was the main attraction for the game in the first place. I guess we’ll have to wait until next month to see if that’s the case.

For those not in the know, Hellgate: London takes place in 2038, where London has been invaded by demons from Hell. You play as a member of the resistance to drive back the forces.
