So, you thought that Brutal Doom was the best you could get with Doom mods? Again, who knew that when John Carmack released the source code years ago that we’d get something like this?
After being in the works for years, a new total conversion mod for Doom II entitled Total Chaos has been released. And yes, it’s epic. Running on GZDoom source port, the game drops you into an abandoned coal mining community on an island called Fort Oasis. And yes, monsters are running around, hungry for blood.
According to the developer wadaholic, “the player has freedom of choice of either finding the lost community, surviving on their own against the islands deadly forces, or explore Fort Oasis to uncover its most hidden secrets.” Total Chaos features six chapters, eight enemy types, and a lots of guns. In classic survival horror fashion, ammo is somewhat scarce. You’ll have to get up close and personal with tireirons, pickaxes, shivs, and “garden tools”, all of which you can upgrade as you progress through the game.
But enough yakking. Load up your copy of Doom II, grab GZDoom, and head to ModDB to experience something that pushes the Doom engine farther than you ever thought possible.
