Half-Life turns 20 years old today, and while it took me a while to get onboard (mostly because I was having too much fun having lightsaber duels in Dark Forces II), once I did get in, I was hooked like so many others. On this auspicious occasion, Crowbar Collective, the team behind the long-in-development Half-Life remake mod, Black Mesa, has released new footage for fans’ eye parts to gorge on.
Set for release next year, the new footage is taken from the final chapters of the mod, which has Gordon Freeman stuck in Xen. And yes, these are definitely not 1998 graphics. Unlike the rest of Black Mesa, Xen is almost entirely original work, and features around six hours of gameplay.
If you’re interested in hearing more about the project, you can check out PCGamer’s 2017 editorial on the mod. And yes, we’re still waiting on Episode 3, but that’s a story in and of itself.
