The Carmageddon franchise has always been a cathartic experience for me. The fact that you could complete a race either by going through the motions of a normal race, trashing other racers, or if you were feeling particularly annoyed that day, turning all of the pedestrians into a red paste, there was something truly fun about it.
So is it any wonder that THQ Nordic have announced that they’ve acquired the IP from Stainless Games? Obviously, if you’ve played the first two games (and skipped the third), or even if you played the “revived” version in Carmageddon Reincarnation, you can see the appeal of putting your road rage to good use.
THQ Nordic have been on a bit of an acquisition spree as of late, having grabbed several IPs over the past year, including the seemingly-forgotten TimeSplitters series. No word yet on just when (or if) we’ll be seeing a new game in either of these franchises, but fingers crossed.
THQ Nordic’s Darksiders III, another rescued franchise, was released November 27, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
