In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 25 years, there’s this little game called Doom. It was created by id Software. John Romero was one of the main guys behind it, having designed many of the levels for the game, as well as popularizing multiplayer deathmatches. For the past couple of days, Romero has been teasing something related to the number five. Many assumed that it was an entirely new episode for the original Doom (as there were four episodes, if you included Ultimate Doom).

In fact, they were right.
I'm excited to announce the project that I've been working on: SIGIL, an unofficial spiritual successor to The Ultimate DOOM's 4th episode! Read about it here: https://t.co/bVDrRntSqG #johnromero #romerogames #sigil #doom#pcgaming #pcgames #buckethead #retrocollection

SIGIL is a free megawad for the original Doom, and is a spiritual successor to the fourth episode of Doom, and picks up where the original left off. It contains nine singleplayer and nine deathmatch levels, and will be released in mid-February 2019, and requires that players own the original 1993 registered version of Doom in order to play.
In addition to the free megawad, there will be two limited edition fan boxes created by Limited Run Games for those hardcore fans. The boxes feature music by metal guitar legend Buckethead, including a custom song written expressly for SIGIL, and cover art by Christopher Lovell. The free megawad does not ship with either of those goodies.
Happy Doom day!
