So with the 1-Shot Demo for Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 being released this past Friday (and Neil loving the crap out of it), the inevitable question was raised: Just how do you get past the 30-minute time limit? Lo and behold, Steam users have been able to do just that.
One user offered a couple of suggestions, including the tried-and-true method of using a trainer (a special program that injects code into a game’s data). Another suggestion was to reset the timer by deleting a data00-1.bin file within your Steam user folder and disable cloud saving. However, those who earned the achievements for completing the demo found that they were locked out of the game by attempting to re-play the demo afterwards. For those people, they would have to use Steam Achievement Manager to bypass the achievement lockout (though that’s risky).
Another user claimed that by forcing the game to stop via the Task Manager would reset the timer, but that only works for the first room of the demo. However, the most successful method seems to be to turn off cloud saving, delete the data file, remove achievements earned, and use a trainer to pause the timer by modifying the game’s data.
Now I know there are some of you who will ask why you’d go through all of the trouble just for a demo. Well, you could as the same question to those who still have Konami’s P.T. demo still on their PS4 hard drives: It’s an archival piece of gaming history. I know, it sounds kind of pretentious, but it’s true. Plus, how many games these days have demos?
Regardless, Resident Evil 2 hits January 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
