After the big reveal at last year’s E3, Techland have been busy working away at their follow-up to Dying Light with (obviously) Dying Light 2. In an exclusive interview over at Gamesradar, the devs have dropped more info on the game, focusing on the new zombie types you’ll be coming across as you make your way in the post-apocalyptic world.
In the interview, Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektała details the new “cycle of infected life”, beginning with the Viral, the unfortunate souls who get bitten and begin to turn. From there, they become Biters, which are your typical zombie. From there, things get interesting.
If a Biter chills out in the sun for too long or is under a UV light for a period of time, they turn into Degenerates. These zombies are “very weak with pieces of flesh falling off of them,” and are very weak. Still, it’s best to keep an eye on them, as due to Dying Light 2 being a systemic game, things can turn very quickly. Such is the case with the infected turning into Volatiles, which are the most dangerous, extreme night predators. As Smektała puts it, “There’s no fighting with those guys because they will just kill you.”
Evolving zombies is a pretty awesome concept, and I’m sure it piques more than just my interest. Dying Light 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but is expected to be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
