[GDC 2019] Latest ‘Control’ Trailer Demonstrates Graphical Prowess

Ahead of their psychological thriller Control being released later this year, Remedy Entertainment showed off new footage from the game at GDC 2019, which also featured some amazing ray tracing effects. The trailer specifically highlights that the game will feature support for GeForce RTX’s real-time ray tracing to give some added depth and immersion to its visuals.

For those not in the know with the technology, ray tracing is the upcoming graphical technology that realistically simulates the way that light interacts with various environments and objects. Understandably, this sort of tech is requires a rather beefy PC setup (other than those touting Nvidia’s new line of GeForce RTX graphics cards), and only a few recent releases actually support for it. Coincidentally, some of those titles include genre fare, such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Metro Exodus.

However, ray tracing takes front and center in the latest trailer for Control, and in the video you can get an idea of how Remedy’s game will utilize the technology to make the game’s environments feel even more lifelife. However, it’s also important to know that the footage in the trailer is “work in progress”, so you might get something different once Control hits the shelves.

Still, if you’re the type that loves eye candy, then this is the next big thing.

Control is expected to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.
