Remedy Had Been Working on ‘Alan Wake 2’, But Development “Didn’t Pan Out”

While we have Remedy’s upcoming Control to look forward to, there are obviously some fans who are still pining for the return of Alan Wake. Even with the upcoming television series based on the games, it’s not quite the same. What makes it even harder is that an Alan Wake sequel was in development.

At PAX East 2019, Remedy revealed in an interview with VG24/7 that a proper sequel to Alan Wake was being developed a few years ago, but it unfortunately fell apart. “We were working on Alan Wake 2 years ago and it just didn’t pan out, so there’s nothing – we’re just booked solid for the next couple of years, really,” said Thomas Puha, Remedy’s director of communications.

Fortunately, Remedy still owns the property if they ever did want to make a sequel, but the company’s focus on Control at the moment. Speaking of which, Puha did state that if Control does well, Remedy could use it as a springboard for a sequel.

“We’ve got nothing against sequels, so definitely Control is something that we want to be working on in the future. But of course, the first game has to be as good as it can to even build that platform that we can make more, so that’s what we’re focused on.”

Control hits PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One August 27.
