QuakeCon Headed to Europe This July, Will Run Simultaneously With Dallas Event

Published

Those across the pond will no longer feel left out when QuakeCon rolls around this year. Bethesda and id Software have expanded the annual convention this year to include London, which will run simultaneously with the event in Dallas, Texas from July 26-27.

“This year, for the first time ever, Bethesda Softworks will host ‘QUAKECON Europe’ at Printworks, London,” states the press release. “Fresh for the ‘Year of DOOM’, fans attending can expect to gain hands-on access to the latest and greatest games that Bethesda has to offer. DOOM Eternal takes centre stage across this two-day event and will be publicly playable for the first time outside of North America.”

In addition to DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, RAGE 2, QUAKE Champions, Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online will also be available to play at QuakeCon Europe.

And in keeping with the ‘Year of DOOM‘, Bethesda will have a “retro area” to showcase the “humble beginnings” of the franchise.

But enough yakking, you say, where can I register? Head on over to QuakeCon’s official European site to register your interest, and be the first to receive news about ticket availability.

DOOM Eternal is due out this year for the Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. RAGE 2 hits May 14 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
