News has been hard to come by regarding OtherSide Entertainment’s upcoming System Shock 3. That being said, the GDC 2019 teaser was certainly welcome. But then, of course, there’s Starbreeze’s financial issues, which resulted in them selling the publishing rights back to Otherside after they had purchased the rights a few years ago.
In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, System Shock 3‘s creative director Warren Spector stated that talks are currently progressing with several interested publishers, and that OtherSide has enough finances to continue while potential deals are being discussed.
“It’s going great. We’re talking to a lot of partners and we have a lot of interest. We don’t have a deal right now, but luckily OtherSide is flush enough that we’re funding ourselves and can continue to do that for quite a while. Let’s see what happens.”
That being said, if no deal is made, OtherSide will self-publish the game if they have to, although it would be a “huge distraction” if they did.
“The reality is, OtherSide is a company of developers who want to develop games. We don’t particularly want to be a publisher. [Founder] Paul Neurath and I have worked with publishers before, Origin self-published when I was there, and we don’t want to get into the market of distributing stuff.”
System Shock 3 still doesn’t have a release date, though given that we’ll probably see Nightdive’s System Shock remake next year, it’s probably better that OtherSide focus on development, and not dates.
