With the Castlevania Anniversary Collection out the door, Konami has announced the rest of the lineup for their upcoming Contra Anniversary Collection. which is due out this summer for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
Originally, the announced games were Contra (Arcade), Super Contra (Arcade), Super C (NES) and Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES). The lineup now includes the following:
- Contra (Arcade)
- Contra (NES)
- Contra (Famicom)
- Super Contra (Arcade)
- Super C (NES)
- Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
- Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (SNES)
- Contra: Hard Corps (Sega Genesis)
- Probotector (Sega Mega Drive)
- Operation C (Game Boy)
Obviously, if you’re a fan of the Contra series, you’ll immediately note that Konami has done a little bait-and-switch here. Super Probotector: Alien Rebels and Probotector are Contra III and Contra: Hard Corps, but with robots instead of humans (because Germany). Still, it’s nice that they included them.
Not to worry, though. Konami have also announced that as with the Castlevania collection, they’ll be adding the Japanese versions of Contra games to the collection via a free update.
Konami will also add an additional six Japanese Contra games to the collection as a free update. Here’s what you can expect:
- Contra (Arcade)
- Super Contra: Alien No Gyakushu ( aka Super Contra)
- Super Contra (aka Super C)
- Contra Spirits (aka Contra III: The Alien Wars)
- Contra (aka Operation C)
- Contra: The Hard Corps (aka Contra: Hard Corps)
Like previous releases, this digital collection will also come with an ebook, providing a comprehensive look at the history and origins of the series.
