Is Baldur’s Gate 3′ In Development at Larian Studios?

Back in the mid 90s, Black Isle Studios crowning achievement (other than the original Fallout series) was the Baldur’s Gate series. Based on the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons rules set, the two games were, for me, some of the greatest traditional RPG gaming you could have on the PC. Plus, it also helped that the game utilized Lovecraftian and Cosmic Horror in some of the story.

Beamdog had released enhanced versions of the first two Baldur’s Gate games, and were planning on creating a third game, but that fell through in 2016 when Interplay Entertainment placed its IPs up for sale. But now, Larian Studios (the same folks behind the Divinity: Original Sin series) have updated their website with a “III” on the main page.

Now obviously, at first glance, this would be a teaser for a follow-up to 2017’s Divinity: Original Sin II. However, when looking at the metadata for the site, fans found that there were references to Baldur’s Gate. Then, over the weekend, that III had some animated tentacles added to it. Remember what I said about the Lovecraftian themes in Baldur’s Gate? This also fits in with the rumour that Larian had been gunning for the Baldur’s Gate licence.

As always, none of this is confirmed, but man, if it turns out to be true, things will be getting pretty interesting at E3 for RPG fans.
