When Blizzard added their classic CRPG Diablo to GOG.com, it was a dream come true for many. There was just one thing missing for completists: The game’s “Hellfire” expansion.
That’s now been rectified, as “Hellfire” is now part of the GOG.com library, and can now be had as a free add-on for everyone who picks up base game. Hellfire’s not considered an official expansion by Blizzard. Developed in 1997 by Synergistic Software and published by Sierra, the expansion took place alongside the original Diablo. It introduced the Monk class for the first time, along with extra quests, weapons and monster-infested dungeons.
The story for the expansion has the player facing off against the demon Na-Krul, who has been unleashed upon Tristram by a careless sorcerer. To stop the demon from escaping, the sorcerer traps players inside its lair and tasks the player with defeating it.
As with the base game, the expansion has been updated with high-resolution support and other compatibility tweaks to run on modern PCs. As an extra incentive, Diablo is 10 percent off until June 17.
