‘S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’ Will Not be Based on The Cancelled 2012 Project, According to Devs

Published

Yes, GSC Game World is still developing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, even though it was announced almost a decade ago. That being said, the devs have been making noise (sort of) with small updates to the title’s Facebook, Twitter and website. And now, in an interview with YouTuber Antishnaps (with a translated version posted on Reddit), we’ve gotten a few more details on the game.

The interview (part 1 and part 2 didn’t elaborate on much, although there were several key takeaways. For starters, the team developing the title is the largest the studio has ever put together. It’s also entirely self-funded, and there aren’t any plans for a Kickstarter at the present time.

Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is being described as a “high-quality AAA game” with a “unique atmosphere”, and the studio is drawing from the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy to help flesh out the game. The sequel will not, however, feature co-op or have a VR version.

Other than that, GSC is still keeping the cards close, leaving many wondering just what to make of it all. Hopefully it doesn’t take another seven years before we get to play this one.

Relive Early 2000s First-Person Shooters With The Gory ‘SPRAWL zero’ [Trailer]

June is coming to a close, but if you’re still hankering for this month’s Steam Next Fest goodies, Kwalee and developer MAETH’s throwback first-person cyberpunk shooter SPRAWL zero still has its demo from the event available for you to check out. Inspired by 2000s console FPS games such as Halo, the SPRAWL zero demo contains the frenetic action, gameplay and music you enjoyed from the early days, with plenty of gore thrown in for good measure.

In SPRAWL zero, you play as FIVE, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier controlled by the Junta. Your directive is to eliminate SILAS, leader of the radical techno-religious group IMAGO-DEI. The city plunges into chaos as all factions known and unknown aim to take control.

Combat is described as fast-paced but grounded, where enemy squads will communicate and coordinate to fight for the advantage. They will flank you, provide covering fire to teammates, and utilize grenades to flush you out in callbacks to those early 2000s shooters.

As a result, you must outsmart and outmaneuver the opposition using any advantage possible. Luckily, you have a few tricks of your own. You can catch their bullets and throw them right back with the Gravity Shield, or bend your shots midair with Bullet-Time for inhuman precision. In all, you’ll have 40 weapons at your disposal.

In addition to Steam, SPRAWL zero is currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
