On top of the details shared at E3, director Hidetaka Miyazaki sat down with IGN to share more information on the upcoming From Software game.
Among the tidbits, Miyazaki stated that the gameplay for the third-person action RPG is “not so far from Dark Souls. That doesn’t mean that the gameplay will be identical, but you could say that Elden Ring belongs to the same genre.”
Elden Ring will also be larger and have more open environments than Dark Souls, with the belief that the game will evolve on a greater scale. “With a larger world, new systems and action mechanics inevitably become necessary. In that sense, I think that Elden Ring is a more natural evolution of Dark Souls.”
In comparison to From Software’s latest hit in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Miyazaki wants to offer depth to exploration. That being said, the villages in Elden Ring will be “the dark dungeon-like ruins that you have come to expect from us. Creating a more open game is a big challenge for us. If we were to add towns on top of that, it would become a bit too much, so we decided to create an open-world-style game focused on what we are best at.”
Miyazaki also touched on his collaboration with George R.R. Martin. Surprisingly, Martin did not write the main story of Elden Ring. Rather, he wrote the events that happened long before the era the player explores. In essence, the “mythology” of the game.
There’s quite a bit more info to be gleaned from the interview. so head to the above link to check it out. Elden Ring is currently being made for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
