Not everyone is down with Konami’s upcoming return to the Contra series with Contra: Rogue Corps. I myself think it reminds me too much of Konami’s first effort in toying with 3D in the series with the lackluster Contra: Legacy of War.
But, for those of you wanting old-school action, The Arcade Crew and developer Joymasher have a little something with their obvious tribute to Contra in Blazing Chrome. The teams announced that Blazing Chrome will see a July 11th release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam.
The story sounds a bit familiar: An AI-controlled robot army has taken over the world, leaving humans expendable. They survive in hiding while their the machines rule the surface. When a small rebel group gets intel about the AI’s power plant, the machines strike their camp before the rebels can organize an attack. A few of those rebels escape and go in a suicide mission to destroy this power plant.
Players initially will be able to choose to play as Mavra, a human resistance soldier, or Doyle, an equally-deadly insurgent robot. The mission will result in heavy casualties, and a ton of lock-and-load fast-paced action, where scrapping robots with your weapons is the only thing standing between you and your freedom.
