Taiwanese Horror Game ‘Detention’ Receiving Film Adaptation; John Hsu Directing

In spite of the controversy regarding Red Candle Games’ Devotion, that’s not stopping the series’ first game, Detention, from getting a film adaptation.

According to Taiwan News, director John Hsu is currently working on the adaptation, which is expected in Taiwanese theatres this September. The film will star Gingle Wang, and is produced by 1 Production Film Co. and Filmagic Pictures.

“As a gamer, the original Detention game left me shocked and made a deep impact,” Hsu states. “Even then, I hoped the story could be adapted to film to reach even more people. My goal was to keep the film true to the spirit of the game, but to further develop a unique vision and emotion. I wanted to create a truly unique psychological thriller.”

As for Devotion, the game still remains off of Steam, although we did get a chance to review it, with Danny referring to it as a game “that manages to remain unsettling and horrific through the mood and tone that’s imparted from the game’s design and storytelling”.
