Capcom Producer: ‘Project Resistance’ is Part of Capcom “Branching Out”

Published

on

As exciting as it was for Capcom to finally reveal Project Resistance, their upcoming multiplayer spin-off to Resident Evil, there are still those chiding the company for doing so.

Some folks are unhappy that it’s not a full-on Resident Evil game, while others are reminded of Capcom’s past shortcomings when it came to multiplayer offerings based in the RE universe, most recently in the lackluster Umbrella Corps. As such, Capcom producer Matt Walker took to Twitter to dispel some of the rumblings.

“Been seeing a lot of people who are not pleased with the idea that we’re making Project Resistance. It’s totally valid that people want more of that quality core experience offered in RE2 and RE7,” says Walker. “My take: we as a company need to continue to branch out and try to offer up new gameplay in addition to refining the experiences people expect from us. If we just continue to offer up the same thing over and over again, people will gradually lose interest with what we’re making.”

Indeed, Capcom should be well aware of what happens when things like the RE franchise go stagnant. After all, Resident Evil 4 revamped the series, but in turn led to the progressive drifting away from what made the series so great until Capcom revamped again with Resident Evil 7.

Walker said the closed beta will enable players to see that despite the title being multiplayer, Project Resistance is really “survival horror at its core.” He also highlighted that Capcom is looking for feedback from players in order to improve the game, and that based on that, “it could grow from a project to a fantastic game,” and that people who have played the game so far have been “positive” about it.

Project Resistance is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. No official release date has been announced.

Dead by Daylight fans have another Tome launch today in Tome 19: SPLENDOR, bringing with it a new content update, the game’s next Modifier, a new Tome packed with unlockable rewards, and a major update to the in-game store. Accompanying the update will be several Outfit Collections, which will be arriving over the next couple of weeks.

After giving fans a taste of what’s to come with the time-limited Lights Out Modifier, Behaviour Interactive has introduced a new one with Chaos Shuffle, offering a completely different challenge. In the Chaos Shuffle Modifier, players will be jumping into Trials with randomly selected Perks from all of Dead by Daylight’s available Perks. However, instead of relying on tactics they’ve grown accustomed to, players will now have to contend and strategize with the Perks they’re dealt at the beginning of the match. Chaos Shuffle will be out soon.

Along with the new Modifier is the new Event Tome with SPLENDOR, packed with new challenges, memories, and classy rewards to Dead by Daylight, inspired by all things gold and silk. Players will unlock memories that offer a glimpse into The Artist and Zarina Kassir’s past, with new outfits for The Trickster, Nea Karlsson, Mikaela Reid, The Skull Merchant, and many more characters across the Free and Premium Tracks. Players who purchase the Rift Pass instantly unlock a gold-adorned Outfit for The Trapper, and those who complete the track are rewarded with a brutal Ultra Rare Outfit for The Doctor.

As for the in-game store, with over 30 Chapters packed with content and outfits for our numerous Survivors and Killers, the in-game store has been given a complete visual overhaul. The new interface allow players to easily find items that are on sale, cosmetics from a specific collection, as well as purchase bundles that contain multiple items at a discounted price.

Finally, there are the new Outfit Collections that are coming to Dead by Daylight in the coming weeks.

  • The Forgotten Myth Collection brings a horrifying Visceral Legendary Outfit for The Huntress, complete with its own unique Mori.
  • Metamorphosis manifests in different ways. The returning Chrysalis Collection reimagines both Killer and Survivor with butterfly or moth-inspired looks.
  • The return of the Visions of the Future Collection offers new futuristic looks for several Survivors.
  • A new addition to the Nicolas Cage Essentials Collection proves the actor needs no stylist to look cool.
  • The Forgotten Garden Collection spreads botanical brutality to two Killers.
  • The Cats & Dogs Collection brings more cozy sweaters to the game inspired by our furry friends.

Dead by Daylight is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
